In addition to providing a competitive atmosphere for all different levels of competitive atmosphere for all different levels of competition for boys and girls, the tournament is a major fund raising event for Hospice of Windsor and Essex County. The previous 13 tournaments have raised in excess of $900,000 with over $500,000 for charities after expenses.
The majority of the income comes from pledges collected by the boys and girls who play in the tournament. There are many incentives for teams and individual players shown below.
Tournament Points of Interest
a.) Team registration for the tournament is $150
b.) Every team is guaranteed at least 3 tournament games.
c.) There are play-offs in every level of competition. Example: last year there were 9 levels.
d.) Trophies are awarded to the finalists and winners of the championship game in each of the levels.
e.) Players and team officials will receive a meal during the tournament.
f.) There is no gate - everyone is welcome free of charge
g.) A donation of ten percent of the profits will be given to a children's charity.
h.) Corporate sponsors are welcome - see any tournament official.
i.) Team and individual results will be available on our website for several months.
Team Incentives
Teams receive 1/2 point for every $250 in pledges turned in by their players before their first game.
There is a maximum of 5 points per team that can be received for pledges. Divisional standings are based on points won playing hockey plus points received for pledges.
It is readily apparent that larger amounts of pledges will increase each team's chances in the final standing in the division after the hockey has been completed.
Additionally, when teams are tied for the playoffs and after head to head competition results, the amounts of team pledges is the second tie breaker.
Each player on the team with the most pledges in their division will receive an award for their achievement.
Player Incentives Awards
a.) $50 pledges - a t-shirt
b.) $100 pledges - a sweat shirt
c.) $150 pledges - a sweat shirt and a t-shirt
d.) $300 pledges - a sweat shirt, a t-shirt and a gym bag. The gym bag will be presented at the team meal.
e.) $300 pledges - will automatically be entered in a draw for door prizes. First prize will be a new bicycle.
The player with the most pledges on each team will receive a framed certificate signed by Carol Derbyshire, the executive director of Hospice.
Note: The tournament expenses per team, which is paid from registration and pledges, is approximately $700 per team. Please assure that your team becomes a contributor to our charities. |
